Suicide by hanging:The biggest lie

Although mechanisms of constricting forces acting around the neck of the deceased are different in both hanging and strangulation, still the ligature marks found around the necks appear almost similar. Associated bodily injuries resulting from resistance or violence may not be present in all cases of ligature strangulation. In those cases, it is only the ligature mark that helps us to differentiate hanging from strangulation.
Factors like level, discontinuity and obliquity of the ligature mark, which differentiate hanging from strangulation, are not present simultaneously in all cases of hanging or strangulation. But the ligature mark of hanging must be differentiated from the ligature mark of strangulation before giving opinion; otherwise a serious mistake can result. This can lead to in the conviction of an innocent while a murderer can go unnoticed in the society.

Note:some of the external positive findings in  a case of hanging are:
1.A non continuous ligature mark that should match with the impression that can be caused by the ligature material.Presence of abrasions, ecchymoses and redness about the ligature mark,2.Purple protruding tongue 3.Dribbling of saliva...

Dribbling of saliva is a definite sign of hanging having taken place during life
4.glove and stock pattern of post-mortem lividity.5.Petechial hemorrhages on the skin
Not a single sign of hanging was present on Raudha's body

Important External post mortem findings

1.There was no dribbling of saliva on Raudha’s face.

2.The  appearance of ligature mark not matches with an imprint that can be caused by that of a shawl. There were metallic impressions one vertical and two circular on the ligature mark.

1.   Strangulation mark on Raudha’s neck:

There were signs of manual strangulation on Raudha’s neck.

Bruising of the neck occurs due to assailant’s fingers grasping the victim’s neck when she was alive.

There were finger marks or bruising caused by manual strangulation by hand as bluish discolouration  on Raudha’s neck. The twelve members in our team saw this. I showed that to the investigating police officer. On second day of her death autopsy team shared their autopsy report with Rajshahi media and reported Raudha’s death a suicide.

When I asked for an explantion from the autopsy team after they shared it with media about the bruising marks caused by manual strangulation from hand on Raudha's neck autopsy team forensic expert Dr.Enamul  Haque took out a piece of written paper from his pocket and told this is the medical definition of birth mark.So the bruising marks on Raudhas face and neck is a birth mark. Then I asked him when does a birth mark appear on the body.He answered it’s present on the body at birth. Then I asked him if Raudha is killed by manual strangulation from hand by the assailant then how it would appear on the victm’s neck.He said if the assailant is a right hand person then the bruises caused by his right hand thumb appear on Raudha’s right side of the neck and the bruise marks caused by other fingers especially the tips would appear on the left side of the victim’s neck.

Then I ask him when its present on Raudha’s neck as you say then:

1. why you say its birth mark?

2.why the parents & family members who took care of Raudha as a child could not see that birth mark when she was born. Why the so called “BIRTH MARK” on her neck and face appeared all of a sudden after 21 years of her life and why that mark look exactly as bruises caused by manual strangulation by hand. Why these birth marks are not there in the photos she took the last 21 years of her life.

He could not answer any of my questions. Its a shame for medical community which involves a great service and responsibility towards human life and diginity. It is a great injustice caused by the autopsy team to Raudha’s death as it shows the college is trying to hide the real cause of Raudha’s death.

2  .Ligature mark on Raudha’s neck:

The ligature mark on Raudha’s neck does not match with that of a mark caused by

hanging from a shawl.I saw the material and loop produced by Rajshahi police as they claim as what Raudha used for hanging. The soft material its  length or diameter of the noosed cannot produce such a mark on Raudha’s neck. The ligature mark on her neck could be caused by strangulation from a cord.Such a discontinuous and oblique ligature mark can appear if the ligature was applied by the assailant standing from behind and the victim sitting on a chair.

Police  and the college authorities are saying my daughter Raudha Athif committed suicide by hanging. Nobody could show me even one photo of her hanging up to now even when more than twenty persons including Raudha’s batch mates , senior intern students and hostel warden entered the room to bring her down from the hanging noose. Why they could not show even one photo of my daughter hanging.?

Raudha's hostel room doors were not locked as claimed by the warden

After visiting mortuary  all our family memebers reached her hostel compound and inspected her room and met some of her hostel wardens ,securities and block mates including three girls and one boy from Maldives who are studying in the Final prof M.B.B.S.

There were signs of struggle in the room as some of the items in her room appears damaged and broken including the mirror of the wardrobe which is near the point of hanging. The plastic handle of her broom stick was also broken to pieces and were lying here and there.
I took a statements from hostel warden and one of her batch mates Ms.Seerath who was the first student in her block to find  Raudha hanging. She told me that morning when she came to meet Raudha and found that her room’s door was locked from inside and after knocking the door few times and when there was no response from inside she peeped through a gap (about 10mm) on Raudha’s room door and saw her hanging from the ceiling fan with a blue colored shawl.

Then she screamed and started running to inform some other senior students and the warden and about some fifteen students gathered outside Raudha’s room(Room no 209) and  forcefully broke the door and entered the room and loosed Raudha from the hanging noose and kept her on the bed. By that time Rajshahi Police also visited the room with some local media crew.

Food that may be prepared for the days lunch
Many students told me they entered the room by breaking the door. But I have seen that door and its locks inside and outside of the door is not demaged. All the windows of her room are secured with iron grills. All our family member and even the Maldivian government officials (Maldives ambassador Ms. Shan Shakir ,third secretary Mr. Ismail Mufeed who were present with us saw the condition of the room and its doors and locks.

We even locked the doors and tried to open the locks as told by the warden and other students who claimed they opened the doors by repeated banging but the locks did not move even 10mm down.

The death of my daughter Raudha Athif is a well-planned murder

Losing a child is every parent’s greatest fear, whether it be by illness or accident or the horrible, unimaginable case of murder. What’s worse is never knowing why and who did it.Such was the case for the Raudha’s family when our 21-year-old daughter Raudha Athif was found dead in 29 March 2017  at her college hostel in Rajshahi Islamic Bank Medical college.

The news of the death of Raudha Athif  is a painful sorrow for all our family members. When I got the news of Raudha’s death at about 13:30 on February 29th I contact acted her mother and we all started the travel arrangements to reach Bangladesh. We left Male’ at 20:35 on the same day and reached Rajshahi,Bangladeh around 23:20 on 30 th March.

The Rajshahi Police took us to see Raudha’s dead body at mortuary the next day morning around 9:30.It was shocking to see  my daughter’s condition. All the members in our team including the police officers who accompanied us saw the signs and conditions of her body.

I inspected the medico legal forensic and external postmortem findings on  Raudha’s body not only as her father but as a doctor with enough medical knowledge. With my knowledge and training in  Forensic medcine  and toxicology as part of my medical studies of MBBS it was not difficult to recognize the external post mortem findings on her body.

It is easy to diagnose hanging and ligature strangulation when one finds the
classical features. When I left mortuary I got enough preliminary findindings to point that the death of my daughter points to a homicidal case. All our twelve members’ team saw the marks on her body. We all saw the so called “ ligature mark”. Apart from this there were signs of manual strangulation (throttling) on her neck. The bruising caused by manual strangulation was clearly visible on her neck. We all saw the exact mark its color and appearance.
